January 2012 Meeting

E-mail Print PDF

Our first meeting of the year will be on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Nova Southeastern University Knight Lecture Hall Room 1124 from 3:30pm - 5:30pm followed by our usual networking hour at the Falcon Pub. As always, this meeting will be FREE and provide you with 2 CPE credits!

We have two timely talks lined up. First we will look at a new vulnerability that affects almost every web platform on the Internet with the ability to cause a sever denial of service. Second, we will hear about securing a virtual environment and we don't just mean the virtual machines.

Talk: Holiday Downtime, It wasn't just you!

While you were out - so was your web application! A severe denial of service vulnerability was introduced during the 28th Chaos Computer Congress in Berlin on December 28, 2011. It affects most web application platforms including ASP.NET, Java, and PHP to name a few. Jorge will discuss how he followed the news and created a proof of concept to show if and how it works. This presentation will have little slides but lot's of visual content. We will also discuss other items in the news and what we should be focusing our time on.

Talk: Securing Your Virtual Environment

What are you doing to secure your virtual environment? In virtual environments, you don't just need to secure your virtual machines but the hypervisor as well. If your hypervisor is compromised so will all it's guests! Deep Security for Virtualized Environments is the only vShield ported security solution available today for File Integrity Monitoring, Host Intrusion Prevention, Firewall and AntiMalware/AntiVirus.  Working agentlessly in VMware 4.1 or newer environment; Deep Security is able to provide security that is missing today while gaining back significant performance in your existing hardware infrastructure.
